Pingdong Academy, with a history of over 180 years, was later transformed into the Confucius Temple. The Confucius Temple in Pingdong blends the styles of a traditional academy and a grand hall, possessing distinctive scholarly characteristics. The front hall worships Confucius, Mencius, Yan Hui, and Zeng Shen, the four sages, while the rear hall venerates Confucius’s ancestors. The eastern and western wings resemble study rooms. In addition to the front and rear halls and the eastern and western wings, there are left and right rooms at the rear section. A characteristic of the academy’s architecture is the connection between the front and rear halls by a pavilion, which is a feature of southern architecture. The temple is open all year round from Tuesday to Sunday, 8:00 AM to 12:00 AM.
