This exhibition, titled ‘Cross-Communication’, reflects the historical memories carried by this building due to changes in its usage, and its enduring role as a key player in ‘cross-domain, communication, and exchange’ despite several functional transformations in space utilization. During the Osaka Shosen period, the building was the commercial office building that controlled the transportation of goods and passengers in Taiwan’s coastal shipping. During the Taiwan Shipping Company and Highway Bureau’s usage, it was the administrative center that promoted Taiwan’s shipping development, witnessed significant highway projects, and planned the early passenger transport network. After the restoration of the historical site, not only does it recreate the historical elegance of the building, but the establishment of the ‘National Photography and Culture Center Taipei’ also transforms it into a museum-like space dedicated to promoting the inheritance, development, communication, cross-domain, and international exchange of Taiwan’s photography and visual arts, endowing the historical site with a new life rich in humanistic value. This exhibition reviews the architectural life history of this historical site from ‘Osaka Shosen Kaisha Taipei Branch’, ‘Taiwan Shipping Building’, ‘Highway Building’ to ‘National Photography and Culture Center Taipei’ over more than 80 years through documents, photographs, architectural remains, and historical artifacts, looking back on its historical footprints and the process of restoration and reuse. Open from March 25th to December 31st, performance times and duration are subject to the venue.
