Mount Dabajian belongs to the Xueshan Mountain Range. Currently, Mount Dabajian and Xueshan Mountain are part of Shei-Pa National Park. Mount Dabajian has a cylindrical mountain appearance. All four sides are cliffs and there is no grass growing. Its special mountain shape has earned it the reputation of ‘the wonder peak of the century’. As Mount Dabajian is a sacred mountain and the ancestral birthplace in the beliefs of the Atayal and Saisiyat ethnic groups, climbing to the summit has been prohibited until 1927 when a Japanese mountaineering team completed the first ascent. One of the reasons why Mount Dabajian attracts mountaineers to climb to the summit is its awe-inspiring terrain landscape. After reaching the summit, one can see the thick rock cones formed by the weathering of hard sandstone on Mount Dabajian and Mount Xiaobajian. This landscape standing above the base of horizontal rock strata is a rare sight. Moreover, during the climbing journey, depending on the altitude, one can see broad-leaved forest belts, mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forests, and coniferous forest belts along the way. One can also see the native cypress forest known as the ‘misty forest’. Red cypress and Formosan cypress interlace here to form a forest, which is the charming scenery of Mount Dabajian. Coupled with its rich variety of animal species, Mount Dabajian has become a place that mountaineers yearn for. Shei-Pa National Park takes Xueshan Mountain and Mount Dabajian as the main axes. The park starts from Luoyewei Mountain in the east, ends at Dongxishui Mountain in the west, reaches Yuluowei Mountain in the south, and reaches Jingjieshan Mountain in the north. It has a total area of about 76,850 hectares and includes the Guanwu Recreation Area, Xuejian Recreation Area, and Wuling Recreation Area. Open all year round and 24 hours a day.
