Dapeng Bay is located along the southwest coast of Taiwan, at the junction of Donggang Town and Linbian Township in Pingtung County. It is close to Provincial Highway 17. It is an inland island lake and is characterized by its unique natural lagoon landscape. The formation of Dapeng Bay is due to the fact that in the early years, Linbian Creek and Donggang Creek flowed into the bay area. Over time, the two creeks carried sediment from the upper reaches into the sea. Then, through ocean currents and monsoon drift, a sand spit deposition topography was formed, and the Nanping Peninsula was born, separating the open sea and inland waters. The water area surrounded by the inland sea is the lagoon, covering an area of 532 hectares. In the early days, oyster fields were everywhere. Today, there are dots of sail shadows. The only outlet of the lagoon is where the Pengwan Cross-Sea Bridge is located. Aerial view of this bay area resembles a pouch. Therefore, the lagoon in Dapeng Bay is called a single-mouthed pouch-shaped lagoon. Dapeng Bay is the southern boundary of mangrove distribution in Taiwan. Currently, there are three places with relatively scenic and band-like mangroves: one is the mangrove forest in the Dapeng Bay waterway, the second is the Kandelia candel on the embankment of Jialian Road, and the third is the mangrove forest in the river channels in Donggang Town. At present, Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area is planned to have three major types: ‘military historical relics’, ‘water activities’, and ‘land activities’. Opening hours: Open all year round and all day. Service facilities: Barrier-free services: barrier-free parking lot, barrier-free entrance. Tips: 1. The Donglong Palace in Donggang holds the burning of the king ship festival once every three years. Folk activities such as sugar painting on holidays in Qifeng Village, Linbian Township are also characteristic human landscapes in the Dapeng Bay area. 2. The Dapeng Bay Scenic Area Management Office integrates the three major characteristics of water recreation, land recreation and folk custom viewing in this area. It plans to build coastal amusement parks, yacht docks, leisure aquaculture, ocean parks, tourist hotels and other leisure and recreation facilities, becoming an important tourist itinerary in southern Taiwan.
