The early Donghe Zen Temple was called the branch temple of the Caodong Sect’s main mountain. It was built in 1908 by eminent monks from Japan. The designer was Zentaro Irie. In 1916, a Buddhist school was attached for the children of monks and lay friends to study. In 1916 AD, it was renamed Private Taipei Middle School, and later renamed Taibei Middle School. In 1930, a towering bell tower was built in front of the main hall and is still continuously preserved.
