Hydrangeas, scientifically known as Hydrangea macrophylla, belong to the Hydrangea genus of the Hydrangeaceae family, hence they are also referred to as ‘Hydrangea’ or ‘Ajisai’. What most people perceive as the hydrangea flower is actually its calyx, with the true flower being only 3mm in size at the center. There are currently hundreds of hydrangea varieties, resulting in a spectrum of colors. Additionally, the acidity or alkalinity of the soil can influence the coloration of the flowers.
The Gao’s hydrangea fields in Zhuzihu bloom from around May to mid-July each year, featuring purple, blue, pink, and white hydrangeas.
