Haomeiliao Wetland

The Haomeiliao Nature Reserve, situated by the sea in Budai Town, is nestled between the estuaries of the Bajhang River and the Longgong River. Its boundaries encompass the sandbars and casuarina forests at the Bajhang River’s estuary, as well as the lagoons, mangroves, and beaches stretching from the Longgong River’s estuary to the southern tip of Budai Port.

This beautiful wetland has been shaped by the long-term siltation of the two rivers, resulting in the formation of sandbar terrain and a rich, complete natural ecology. The area is home to various plant species, including Avicennia marina, Lumnitzera racemosa, Kandelia obovata, and Rhizophora stylosa. It also supports a diverse range of creatures such as Mictyris brevidactylus, Uca albimana, Macrophthalmus banzai, Scylla serrata, and Geloina erosa.

Moreover, the Haomeiliao Nature Reserve is an excellent spot for bird watching. Species like Tringa melanoleuca, Tringa nebularia, Arenaria interpres, Sterna albifrons, Charadrius alexandrinus, and Pluvialis fulva are commonly found here.

The reserve is open to the public all year round, with access from 00:00 to 23:59 every day. It has been designated as a nature reserve by relevant authorities, who have provided this space for recreation and research for various sectors.
