The Huadong Longitudinal Valley scenic area is located in the eastern part of Taiwan, stretching approximately 180 kilometers from north to south. It is a floodplain sandwiched between the island’s central mountain range and coastal mountain range, often referred to as the ‘green corridor’ connecting Hualien and Taitung.
Undeveloped in its entirety, the area retains a simple and rustic charm. Surrounded by lush green mountains, the scenic area boasts waterfalls, canyons, streams, and hot springs. Visitors can also explore pastoral farms, delve into prehistoric cultures, and appreciate the cultural heritage of Taiwan’s indigenous peoples, as well as the industrial sites of Taitung.
Within the Huadong Longitudinal Valley, there are numerous well-known attractions. In Hualien, you can find Jiayitan, Chinan National Forest Recreation Area, Yuan’s Ocean Park, Mataan Wetlands, Ruizhu Hot Spring, Ruizhu Ranch, and Xiuguluan Stream, among others. Taitung offers its own rural beauty with attractions like Lu Ye Gaotai, Lu Ye Sightseeing Tea Garden, and Chulu Ranch.
