Originally a Japanese sugar factory, the Huatan Sugar Factory in Hualien has now been transformed into a cultural and creative park for tourists to visit and enjoy. The park features exhibition halls, creative workshops, and shopping streets. The exhibition hall displays the sugar-making process; the creative workshops, formerly the sugar factory’s bachelor dormitories, have been renovated into venues for artistic exchanges and course teaching. The shopping streets offer a variety of handicrafts and clothing.
The ice cream department of the Hualien Sugar Factory is widely popular for its various ice cream flavors, along with lemongrass essential oil and soap gift sets, which are perfect souvenirs for visitors. If time permits, one can choose to stay in the Japanese-style buildings next to the factory, experiencing the pleasure of barrel baths and feeling the tranquil beauty of Japanese culture.
Located in Guangfu Township, Hualien County, rich in tourism resources, the Hualien Sugar Factory is surrounded by many interesting attractions such as the Taroko Tribe, Mataan Leisure Agricultural Area, Harvest Festival, Danongdafu Forest Park’s firefly season, Fuyuan Forest Recreation Area, Ruishiu Ranch, and Chikushan Golden Needle Flower Sea. Each season offers a different experience, making it an ideal place for family outings. The park is open year-round from 09:00 to 17:00; however, the specific business status is subject to the day’s opening conditions.
