Asian Art Center is honored to announce the first solo exhibition of American artist Katja Farin in Asia. The exhibition, titled “Blind Spot,” will run from September 14 to November 10. Katja Farin’s keen observation is reflected in her paintings, which incorporate local elements such as fishing boats, window grilles, animals, insects, and plants. She employs her signature bright shades of orange, red, green, and blue to depict the everyday scenes of the locale.

Farin’s works often present vivid colors and dramatic scenes, exploring the unconscious, collective unconscious, and the relationship between the self, space, and the surrounding environment through seemingly emotionless protagonists. In this exhibition, Farin also introduces several ceramic works for the first time. The ceramics, primarily in gray, brown, green, and white glazes, feature spikes and chains made of clay and metal, as well as mirrors, symbolizing the three-dimensional manifestation of recurring symbols in her paintings.

Through the interpretation of two-dimensional and three-dimensional works, the artist examines the emotional blind spots hidden in the subconscious, lingering traumas, and unresolved disputes. The two different media are closely connected through the reflected images in the mirrors, with the viewer’s reflection trapped in this dreamlike vortex, as if becoming a part of the unsettling space.

The exhibition is open from September 14 to November 10, with specific business hours subject to the day’s opening status.
