The Chijin Shell Museum in Kaohsiung is one of the largest shell museums in Southeast Asia, located on the second floor of the Chijin Coastal Park Visitor Center. The museum houses nearly 2000 species of shells donated by Mr. Huang Geliang from Kaohsiung, which are his many years of collection. There are dedicated guides within the museum, and the entire visit is free of charge.

The museum’s collection includes rare and colorful shells such as the world’s second-largest shell, the circular operculum of the Dragon Palace shell, and the nautilus, which is considered a living fossil. These shells are a feast for the eyes and rarely seen elsewhere.

In addition to the shell collection, the museum features a crab display area with over 200 species of crabs for visitors to admire, showcasing a rich diversity. The museum is open year-round from Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. A must-see tip is that there are free guided tours on holidays, and reservations are required on regular days.
