Operetta ‘The Land of Smiles’ is a work by Austrian composer Lehár, published in 1929 following his success with ‘The Merry Widow’, depicting a romantic love story set in a foreign land. The aria ‘Dein ist mein ganzes Herz’ from Act II is the most popular piece in the entire performance. Director Wang Jiaming transposes the setting to the present day, moving away from the dichotomy of East and West. The music, arranged and designed by Lin Fangyi, takes on a new form with a contrast between punk rock and new age music, revealing the facade of smiles and the politics of love amidst the dialectics of sacred and profane, morality and desire. Performance dates are from December 20th to December 22nd, Friday to Sunday, with performance times and duration subject to the venue.
