Longkeng Ecological Protection Area is located approximately 1.5 kilometers east of Eluanbi, characterized by its unique topography shaped by the erosion of winter waves, including cliffs, fringing reefs, and canyons. The area is home to 215 species of coral reef coastal plants, as well as various birds and reptiles, making it a pristine natural reserve. Only 200 visitor spots are available daily, and advance reservation is required.
Between the control station and the coral reef terrace, there is a jungle area about 1.3 kilometers long, which takes about 20 minutes to walk through. Along the way, one can observe a variety of tree vegetation, such as Casuarina equisetifolia, Calophyllum inophyllum, Citrus hystrix, and Vernonia cinerea. After passing through the windbreak forest, the view opens up to reveal endless blue skies, seas, and coral reef grasslands.
To protect the coral reefs, the management has constructed wooden boardwalks with two observation platforms. Standing on these platforms, one can see the Taiwan Strait, the Bashi Channel, and the vast Pacific Ocean, with waves crashing ashore in a spectacular display. At the end of the boardwalk, there is the Longkeng Grand Canyon, formed by coral reefs and stretching tens of meters, a unique topography that leaves one in awe of nature’s craftsmanship. The area is open all year round, from Monday, Wednesday to Sunday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
