Longluan Pond is an ideal spot for birdwatching. The design here is integrated with the surrounding environment to minimize disturbance to the birds’ lives, featuring an approximately 800-meter-long trail that separates human activities from the birds. The site is equipped with 12 high-powered monocular telescopes and a bird guide to aid in the appreciation and identification of various bird species.
Visitors can observe birds such as the Red-tailed Shrike in the bushes, the Black-headed Oriole perched on branches, and the floating and diving duck groups on the lake, witnessing the lively appearance of the ducks. Located on the road from Hengchun to Guanshan, Longluan Pond is vast and serves as a primary irrigation facility for the Hengchun Peninsula. The area around Longluan Pond has extensive farmland and lush aquatic plants by the pond, making it a primary habitat for local birds. During the autumn and winter seasons, large numbers of migratory birds pass through and head south, often seen in flocks flying across the sky, creating a spectacular sight. Moreover, the site offers a wealth of bird-related knowledge, such as bird migration and the ecology of various bird species, with detailed explanations. Adjacent to the site, there is a large green field where one can sit in the evening and watch the waterfowl feeding by the pond’s edge, offering a unique experience. The site is open all year round from 08:30 to 17:00.Longluan Pond: A Prime Birdwatching Destination
