Since the Lugang Mazu Temple was opened as an official port in 1784 (the 49th year of Emperor Qianlong’s reign), there have been numerous merchants. Ships traveled between Lugang and Quanzhou. It was a trading port in central Taiwan at that time. The establishment of the Eight Suburbs indicates the prosperous commerce of Lugang during the Jiaqing period. Since the old ancestral palace is the joint port temple of Lugang, people in Lugang all call this temple ‘Lugang Mazu Temple’. Opening hours: Open all year round from 6:00 to 22:00.
