The Mao Lan Mountain Trail spans a total length of 4600 meters, with its entrance located alongside Provincial Highway 21 next to Mingtan National Middle School. The trail offers a serene environment and excellent panoramic views, allowing visitors to admire the Assam tea plantations, Chinese firs, and a full view of the Sun Moon Lake. Additionally, due to its geographical advantage, upon reaching the summit of Mao Lan Mountain, one can also see the Jiufen Mountain and Jiji Mountain, and enjoy the magnificent sunrise scenery! The Sun Moon Lake Meteorological Station is situated at an altitude of 1020 meters, equipped with outdoor meteorological instruments. Early morning is a great time to stroll around Mao Lan Mountain, and the Tea Improvement Field office’s outdoor observation platform is one of the best spots to watch the sunrise over Sun Moon Lake. The Tea Improvement Field is the birthplace of Taiwan’s Assam black tea. Ascending along the tea terraces from the entrance, one is flanked by the famous Assam black tea. The Tea Improvement Field, nestled against the mountains and facing the lake, is an ideal location for viewing sunrises, sea of clouds, and morning mists over the mountains and waters of Sun Moon Lake. From the Tea Improvement Field to the meteorological observation station, there is a shaded trail suitable for physical activity; the 2-kilometer journey features a Ceylon olive tree trail and a straight Taiwan cedar forest, with the sounds of chirping birds and insects along the way. Upon reaching the summit, one can overlook Jiufen Mountain and Jiji Mountain, capturing the essence of Sun Moon Lake’s scenery. The trail is open all year round, 24 hours a day, with specific business hours subject to the daily opening status.
