During the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, Wu Guangliang, the commander-in-chief of Taiwan Town, established the ‘Zhengxin Academy’ on Zhuzaiyu (today’s Lalu Island) to promote community school education. The Wenchang Emperor worshipped in the academy was later enshrined in today’s Mingde Palace.
