Mother’s Bridge is located in Taroko. It is a beautiful red bridge. On the Central Cross-Island Highway 3 kilometers east of Tianxiang, it is the confluence of Liwu Creek and its tributary Laoxi Creek. It is one of the eight scenic spots in Hualien, ‘Taroko Confluence’. Origin of Mother’s Bridge: It is said that after a teenager was washed away by floodwaters here, his mother still waited for her son’s return here every day. After being deeply moved, people named this bridge ‘Mother’s Bridge’. The original bridge was damaged by flash floods. The new bridge was completed in 1995. The bridge is 136 meters long and 9.9 meters wide. It is a cable-stayed steel bridge. The guardrails are made of white marble. There is a pair of large white stone lions at each end of the bridgehead and bridge tail. Mother’s Pavilion: Mother’s Pavilion is located by Mother’s Bridge. The entire pavilion is made of marble. Walking westward, the canyon presents a relatively wide V shape. The folds of various rock strata squeezed by the earth’s crust have rich textures.
