Mother’s Bridge is located in Taroko. It is a beautiful red bridge on the Central Cross-Island Highway 3 kilometers east of Tianxiang. It is at the confluence of Liwu Creek and its tributary Laoxi Creek, and is one of the eight scenic spots in Hualien, ‘Taroko Confluence’.
Origin of Mother’s Bridge: The origin of Mother’s Bridge is said to be that after a teenager was washed away by floods here, his mother still looked forward to her son’s return here every day. After being deeply moved, people named this bridge ‘Mother’s Bridge’. The original bridge was damaged by flash floods. The new bridge was completed in 1995. It is 136 meters long and 9.9 meters wide, and is a cable-stayed steel bridge. The guardrail is made of white marble. There is a pair of large white stone lions at each end of the bridgehead and bridge tail.
Mother’s Pavilion: Mother’s Pavilion is located by Mother’s Bridge. The whole pavilion is made of marble. Going west, the canyon presents a relatively wide V-shaped. The folds of various rock strata due to crustal compression have rich textures.
