The museum’s exhibits are regularly changed according to themes, meeting the travelers’ exploration needs for the millennia-old Chinese culture.
The collection in the National Palace Museum in Taipei is rich and numerous, broadly categorized into bronze ware, calligraphy and paintings, ceramics, books and documents, crafts, and court artifacts.
Famous bronze wares include Mao Gong Ding, San Shi Pan, and Zong Zhou Zhong; the three major works of calligraphy and painting are Guo Xi’s ‘Early Spring’, Fan Kuan’s ‘Travelers Among Mountains and Streams’, and Su Shi’s ‘Cold Food Script’; renowned books and documents include the Wen Yuan Ge ‘Complete Library of the Four Treasuries’ and the Chi Zao Tang ‘Essence of the Complete Library of the Four Treasuries’;
crafts include the star exhibit Jadeite Cabbage and the Meat-Shaped Stone; there are also about tens of thousands of jade pieces, as well as lacquerware, glass, gold and silver wares, and the four treasures of the study.
The museum is located in Shilin District, Taipei, with an exterior that resembles a traditional Chinese palace architecture.

The museum is open year-round from Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00-17:00; closed all day on Mondays, except for continuous holidays, with special Monday openings in 2024: June 10 (Dragon Boat Festival) and September 16 (the day before Mid-Autumn Festival).
Other exhibition hall opening times: 1. Library: Open from Tuesday to Saturday, 09:00-17:00, closed on Sundays, Mondays, and legal holidays in Taiwan, China.
2. Zhang Daqian Memorial Hall: Opens at 10:30 AM on Saturdays and Sundays, closed on April 2nd each year and legal holidays in Taiwan, China.
3. Zhishan Garden: Open from Tuesday to Sunday, 08:00-17:00, closed on Mondays.
4. Zhide Garden: Open for free all year round.
Preferential policies for minors: Those under 18 years old enter for free; for the disabled: People with disabilities and one accompanying person enter for free.
Service facilities include stroller rental and wheelchair rental, with reference prices subject to the actual situation at the scenic spot; address: first exhibition area, first floor, left luggage office.
Nursing rooms are located on both sides of the first exhibition area’s B1 entrance hall.
Accessibility facilities: The museum’s entrance hall on the west side, first floor, has an accessible elevator; an accessible toilet is located next to the elevator on the east side of the first floor.
Dining: A restaurant is located on the east side of the first exhibition area, first floor.
Must-see tips: 1. Since December 2, 2016, some exhibits in the museum have been officially opened for conditional photography and filming; exhibits that do not allow photography will have corresponding signs, please confirm before taking photos.
In consideration of the needs of some audiences who wish to quietly view cultural relics, the opening hours are extended on Friday and Saturday nights. Photography is still prohibited. In addition, group photos are not allowed in the exhibition hall. Flashlights, lighting equipment, tripods, and selfie sticks are not allowed. Do not affect safety routes and the viewing rights of others when taking photos.
Apart from renting audio guides for a fee (NT$100 for adults and NT$50 for children. Rent with a passport or a deposit of NT$3000), free guided tours are also provided. There are four sessions per day (9:30, 10:00, 14:30, 16:00). The number of people per session is limited to 30. Among them, 15 places are open for online reservation on the official website. It is recommended to make a reservation at least 15 days in advance.
The memorial hall of Mr. Zhang Daqian near the National Palace Museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday. Reservations need to be made on the official website of the National Palace Museum one week in advance to visit.
If you come before the opening time, it is recommended to visit from the third floor to the first floor. If you come at noon, start visiting from the first floor. Since the three treasures of the National Palace Museum are all on the third floor, try to avoid tour groups!
There is an ATM on the basement floor of the first exhibition hall. The exchange rate is quite good. You can withdraw cash here. There is also a water dispenser for replenishment. There is a post office where you can directly send postcards. On the first floor, you can rent strollers and wheelchairs.
Check the official website frequently. Make reservations online for all that can be reserved in advance. Pay attention to recent exhibition information to be well prepared.
Smoking, eating, and photography are prohibited in the museum. Try to speak softly and visit civilizedly.
