The Peinan River originates on the east side of Peinan Main Mountain with an altitude of 3293 meters. It is about 84 kilometers in length. The name ‘Peinan’ is to commemorate the chief of the Puyuma people. The Peinan River flows through Taitung City, Peinan Township, Yanping Township, Luye Township, Guanshan Township, Haiduan Township, and Chishang Township, and then empties into the Pacific Ocean.
