Pu’er tea: Refrigerator is not its “gentle place”

In the world of tea, Pu’er tea is undoubtedly a unique and charming presence. However, did you know that you should not simply store Pu’er tea in the refrigerator? Let me explain why.

First, the humidity in the refrigerator is a major issue. Pu’er tea thrives in a dry environment, and the higher humidity levels in the fridge can easily lead to moisture absorption, affecting its quality. Just imagine—if your once-dry Pu’er tea absorbs moisture, its flavor and taste will be significantly compromised.

Secondly, the various odors from different foods in the fridge can be quite overwhelming. Pu’er tea has a strong adsorption ability, so if you place it in the refrigerator, it can easily pick up those mixed odors. As a result, what you might end up drinking is not the pure aroma of Pu’er tea but rather a “mixed scent” of strange flavors.

Moreover, from a temperature perspective, the temperature in the refrigerator is too low and unstable. The aging of Pu’er tea requires a relatively stable and suitable temperature. If the temperature is too low, it will inhibit the aging process, much like putting a growing child into “hibernation,” causing their growth to stagnate.

Experts suggest that the ideal storage environment for Pu’er tea should maintain a temperature between 20°C and 30°C and a humidity level of 50% to 70%.

So, to enjoy the pure and delicious taste of Pu’er tea, make sure not to shove it into the refrigerator. Instead, give it a dry, odor-free, and appropriately warm “nest,” allowing it to age slowly and bring you the most captivating aroma and flavor.

In summary, avoiding refrigeration for Pu’er tea is key to ensuring its quality and flavor.
