Qian Lai Ye Grocery Store is located diagonally opposite the Yunlin-Chiayi South Coastal Scenic Area Management Office in Beimen District, Tainan City. Originally built in 1952, it is a traditional sloping tile bungalow. In 2003, the local area was promoting the reuse of idle spaces through art, and thus employed French-educated architect Lin Yayin to lead a group of middle-aged and elderly unemployed individuals participating in a diversified employment program. They embarked on a transformation project that turned decay into magic, breathing new life into this old building and giving it a new meaning. After the renovation of the idle space, the house has become what it is today, with a strong local flavor and characteristics. It is open all year round from Monday to Friday, 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM; and on Saturdays and Sundays, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
