Qingquan Catholic Church

Qingquan Catholic Church, the first Catholic church in Qingquan, serves as the religious heart of the Qingquan tribe. It is a common sight to see Atayal people frequently visiting the church. The church’s first priest hailed from Spain, and since 1976, Father Thomas Merton from the United States has been serving the congregation.

图片描述

The small yet charming church features exquisite glass paintings. The interior murals are inspired by the legends and traditional lifestyles of ethnic minorities, complemented by numerous carvings that showcase the rich cultural heritage of these communities.

Originally constructed in 1955, the church was unfortunately destroyed by a typhoon in 1963. The present structure is the result of a post-disaster relocation and reconstruction effort.
