In the early days, the water level of the Dahan River was quite deep, and commercial vessels could dock at San Keng, making it a distribution center for goods from many towns and thus contributing to the prosperity of San Keng. Today, the shops in the old street have reopened, offering a variety of Hakka traditional items and delicacies, such as pumpkin rice, vegetable wraps, flat noodles, and Hakka-style radish cakes, all of which can be enjoyed in one place.
Apart from the shops, the government is also establishing public facilities in the old street, including pavilions, bus stops, and a 180-meter California redwood walkway without the use of any nails. All utilities are underground, and particularly noteworthy is the ‘black and white wash’ laundry site, named for the clear spring water mixed with the turbid reservoir leakage, which was an indispensable laundry place for the early residents. The opening hours are all year round, Saturday-Sunday, 8:30-18:00.Must Read
