Santiaojiao is a cape on the eastern side of Taiwan, located between Fulong and Toucheng. In 1626, Spanish ships from the Philippines sailed to the sea area in the northeast corner of Taiwan and were preparing to occupy northern Taiwan. They called this place San Diego. It is said that the San Diego Castle was built here. Later, San Die was transliterated into Santiaojiao. In 1929 and 1931, the Japanese ships Fushun Maru and Huanan Maru successively encountered shipwrecks and sank in the sea area near Santiaojiao. Therefore, the Taiwan Governor’s Office built a lighthouse here, which still exists today. Open all year round and all day.
