The Yuanying Pagoda, alternatively referred to as Xilin Pagoda or Chong’en Pagoda, was originally constructed in 1388 during the 21st year of the Hongwu era in the Ming Dynasty. The pagoda was named in honor of Zen Master Yuanyingrui. In 1444, during the ninth year of the Zhengtong period, the monk Fabian moved the Yuanying Pagoda to its present location.

The following year, in June 1445, which was the tenth year of the Zhengtong era, the underground palace was opened. Within this palace, gold and silver Buddha statues and relics that had been kept in the heavenly palace and underground palace of the original pagoda during the Hongwu period were sealed and transferred to the underground palace of the newly relocated pagoda.

The pagoda is open to visitors from August 14 to November 11 each year. However, please be advised that the specific business status on any given day may vary and is subject to the circumstances of that day.
