In September 2002, the Shiguo Qiao Tang Cultural and Creative Park was declared a county-designated historic site by the Kaohsiung County Government. To date, the sugar factory, Japanese-style wooden houses, air-raid shelters, and red-brick water towers have been well-preserved relics of the past. The sugar factory has also transformed into a leisure and tourism industry. The park is now divided into two factory areas: one is the former administrative area of the sugar factory, which has been renovated into the Taiwan Sugar Industry Museum, and the other part is the ice cream leisure area and the art creation area. The factory area has been renovated into the Taiwan Sugar Industry Museum and has attracted a group of artists whose works blend seamlessly with the sugar factory scenery. On holidays, the sugar factory also operates sightseeing ‘five-point’ cars, with the final destination being the Kaohsiung Flower and Agriculture Park Center. The park is open all year round from 09:30 to 17:00.
