Daily life may seem ordinary, but the hidden beauty within is often overlooked. The exhibition ‘Simply Daily: Discovering the Beauty of Everyday Life’ aims to help visitors rediscover and appreciate the infinite possibilities and poetry within the mundane through the artistic creations of Daisuke Samejima. Utilizing Japan’s unique ‘FLATBALLS’ technique, Samejima brings everyday scenes to life on spherical canvases, capturing the emotions and stories within each scene with delicate precision. For this exhibition, Samejima has recreated the streets of suburban Japan and the fishing port life of Pingtung, Taiwan, on spherical canvases using acrylic paints and brushes. Each detail in the works is presented with exquisite skill, immersing viewers in the scenes and allowing them to wander through the curves of daily life’s beauty. These works not only depict real-life scenes but also imbue them with rich emotions and vitality. ‘Simply Daily: Discovering the Beauty of Everyday Life’ encourages us to rediscover the moments we’ve overlooked and to pay attention to the poetry and charm in our daily lives. Each spherical work is a crystallization of Samejima’s profound observations of life, transforming these ordinary moments into art filled with emotion and narrative through his unique artistic method. The curatorial concept revolves around ‘everyday life,’ prompting viewers to re-examine their own lives, discover the overlooked details and beauty, and feel the infinite possibilities within. Among the exhibition’s focal pieces, ‘2024 FLATBALLS no.1 – Sea Viewing Sphere’ has a diameter of 240 centimeters and was created over five months, inspired by Taiwan’s Pingtung, showcasing the enchanting scenery of the area. Two new three-dimensional panel works, ‘Ping’ and ‘Dong,’ reinterpret the character of Pingtung. In addition, the exhibition features a total of 34 works, including the 10 ‘FLATBALLS’ series that have been played over 20 million times on IG, all making their debut in Taiwan. The exhibition also offers a selection of artist’s memorabilia for purchase, allowing art to extend beyond the exhibition space and into everyone’s daily life. This exhibition promises to offer a rediscovery of the emotions in everyday life and should not be missed for its unique visual and sensory experience.
