The Straits Highway, which began operations in May 1932 and was initially named the Coastline Road, was renamed after the war. Its northern starting point is Su’ao Town in Yilan County, and its southern endpoint is Hualien City in Hualien County. The Coastline Road spans 118 kilometers along the coastline, occasionally winding into the flat river delta areas. Along the route, one can enjoy the Pacific Ocean views and cliffs, making it a world-renowned scenic highway.

The Straits Highway offers a spectacular view of the sea cliffs and beautiful scenery, with numerous attractions along the way. Notably, the Qingshui Cliff is a famous landmark, with the peak of Qingshui Mountain at the cliff reaching an altitude of 2407 meters. Additionally, there is the Guanyin Pavilion, which was built after a massive Guanyin stone fell 2.5 meters into the ground in September 1984. Due to the local name’s association with Guanyin, the stone was engraved with the image of Guanyin Bodhisattva, and a Guanyin Pavilion and a lotus pond were constructed.

Please note that the opening hours and business status are subject to the daily opening conditions. Essential tips: During typhoons, the Straits Highway may be closed preventively, and it is advised not to travel at night after continuous heavy rain.
