Yanzikou is a section of the towering cliffs in Taroko Gorge, featuring the winding and towering canyons, the thick and majestic cliffs, and the zigzagging mountain caves and paths. Standing by the roadside railing, the opposite cliff wall is just a stone’s throw away. The limestone walls have been eroded by the long-term flow of streams, causing the softer rock layers to gradually form caves, where swallows have built their nests.
In the past, the area was known for the spectacle of hundreds of swallows foraging in the sky, creating the unique scene of ‘Hundreds of Swallows Chirping in the Valley,’ hence earning the name Yanzikou. Regrettably, due to the excessive number of tourists, the swallows have been scared away by the noise of vehicles and people, with only a few occasionally flying by the area, leaving behind the wonders of the caves in the cliff walls, which adds to the regret. Open all year round, accessible 24/7, with specific business conditions subject to the day’s opening status.Important tips: Taroko National Park is greatly affected by weather conditions, so please pay attention to weather changes before setting off.
