The main building of Tainan Art Museum 1 was originally the Tainan Police Station. It was completed in 1931 and was designated as a municipal historic site in Tainan City in 1998. It is one of the still-preserved police station buildings in the country. The building of Tainan Art Museum 2 was designed by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban. The main building is transformed into a pure and strong pentagonal shape with the phoenix flower with Tainan characteristics.

Then, through vertically stacked and staggered square spaces of various kinds, a free and flexible visiting route is created. The semi-outdoor platform uses steps to shape a rest and activity space. It is a popular check-in spot for tourism in Tainan in recent years. The Tainan Art Museum holds various exhibitions from time to time. With rich content, it is a cultural tourist attraction worthy of a family visit! The large pentagonal fractal shading roof is designed to respond to the local climate of Tainan and simulate the effect of natural tree shade.

When the sun shines on the fractal roof at different angles, beautiful light and shadow like light penetrating leaves can be presented. The exhibition space of Hall 2 is equipped with 16 exhibition rooms, a collection warehouse, a cross-domain exhibition hall, a children’s art center, a creative workshop, a souvenir display area, a light food area, and a landscape restaurant. The basement is a public parking lot open for public use.

The children’s art center is based on art education and children’s sensory development theories. It designs teaching aids and experience facilities and provides multiple creative media materials through diversified and cross-disciplinary learning methods such as exploration, inspiration, and experience, allowing children to understand basic concepts of art and obtain perceptual experiences such as vision and touch.
