The first solo exhibition of Zhang Yuanyuan in Taiwan. When exploring the spirit of Chinese art, in addition to the traditional aesthetics of ‘learning from nature and getting inspiration from the heart’, from the mysterious treasures of Sanxingdui site to the fantasy narratives of ‘Chuci’ and ‘Shanhaijing’, these romanticism and surreal styles rooted in ancient times, and the records of mysterious objects, strange worlds and unusual records filled with the glory of mythology are not only the memories of ancestors, but also the brilliant poems left by human collective subconscious for the unknown environment. Zhang Yuanyuan (b. 1984, Hubei, China), an artist who studied in Tokyo, inherits this spirit and integrates her hometown Hubei and Japanese culture into her creations. With anthropomorphic narratives and colors of pink, white, blue and gold, she presents intense yet elegant pictures. She combines Song Dynasty ink painting with the ‘encaustic painting method’ originated from ancient Rome and ancient Egypt. Coupled with innovative materials such as rock colors and gold foil painted on linen, the uniqueness of multiple cultures and extensive forms carried by her works marks the transformation and innovation in the contemporary context and leads viewers to explore the unexplored artistic frontiers between tradition and innovation.

Opening hours: From October 19 to November 30. The performance time and duration are subject to the site.
