This year, the Taipei Museum of Contemporary Art has opened a new exhibition space, launching a one-year exhibition plan starting from January 27th. Artist Lai Zhisheng has meticulously crafted a new ‘Sichuan Hall’ space, connecting the museum with the school. This exhibition space, inspired by a century-old primary school building, offers visitors an interactive experience with table tennis, evoking memories of youth.
The contemporary museum is the first art museum in Taiwan to be co-constructed with a school, separated from Chengguo Middle School by a white door. Lai Zhisheng’s work ‘Sichuan Hall’ is located in a hall right at the entrance of the museum. After opening the white door, it extends to form a terrace, transforming into a new Sichuan Hall that allows visitors to move through freely. The artist has placed a white stone table, weighing about 150 kilograms, on each side. Visitors, after viewing, can pick up the provided table tennis balls and paddles to create a new sense of back-and-forth play with the visitors across the table, re-experiencing school days and viewing the ancient architecture from a different perspective.
Opening times are from January 28th to December 29th, with performance times and durations subject to the actual schedule on site.
