The classic French musical, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, is adapted from the masterpiece by the great French writer Victor Hugo, set against the backdrop of Notre-Dame Cathedral in late 15th century Paris. The story revolves around the beautiful gypsy girl Esmeralda and her complex relationships with four characters from different social classes – the Archdeacon Frollo, the Captain of the Guard Phoebus, the wandering poet Gringoire, and the Hunchback of Notre-Dame, Quasimodo. Esmeralda falls in love with Phoebus at first sight, who, despite having a fiancée named Fleur-de-Lys, desires to have both. Meanwhile, Archdeacon Frollo, unable to resist the taboo of his clerical status, also succumbs to Esmeralda’s charm; Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer raised by Frollo since childhood, secretly admires Esmeralda but, feeling unworthy, hides his love within. The classic French musical, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, portrays the characters’ lives in a turbulent feudal society, deeply depicting the conflicts between them, highlighting the contrasts of human nature’s goodness and evil, loyalty and betrayal, and displaying a strong dramatic tension. The performance is open from March 21st to March 30th, with performance times and duration subject to the venue.
