Shuling Pagoda is a stone tower approximately 20 meters in height, constructed in 1936.
According to legend, during the development of the precious timber resources in the Alishan region, the Japanese extensively harvested millennia-old cypress trees. Shortly thereafter, the workers involved in the logging began to fall ill and die mysteriously. The Japanese believed that the tree spirits were causing these misfortunes, and thus built this stone tower to suppress the spirits and to offer sacrifices to the felled cypress trees. The pagoda is open all year round and is accessible 24 hours a day.Shuling Pagoda
