Wanglong Pi, formerly known as ‘Ruan Pi’, is located in Zhenshan Village, Yuanshan Township, Yilan. It is a lake formed hundreds of years ago due to a mountain flood, covering an area of about four to five hectares.
Surrounded by low mountains and with a limited catchment area, the lake is prone to drying up during periods of scarce rainfall, while it overflows during heavy rains. The lake’s water level is unpredictable and its water retention capacity is weak.
In the 20th century, the lake’s banks were built up. A lakeside walkway and pavilions were constructed. Trees were planted along the lake shore to beautify the environment. An artificial island was added to the lake, along with an elegant arched bridge and a winding bridge connecting the lake shore. Water sources were introduced and fish were stocked. This revived Wanglong Pi and brought back its scenic lake and mountain views, making it an emerging tourist and leisure spot. The opening hours are from 8:00 to 18:00 all year round.
