Xiao Dongjiang is located in Maonan District and is known as the mother river of Maoming. It has nurtured the land, culture, and the prosperity and splendor of Maoming since its establishment as a city. Xiao Dongjiang is a trans-boundary river that flows through Maoming and Zhanjiang, with a total length of about 67 kilometers. The river is famous for turning into a ‘firewater river’ due to oil shale mining for oil refining in the 1950s.
