The Xiaozhai Tiankeng is a national AAAA-level tourist scenic area. It is located in Xiaozhai Village, Xinglong Town, 70 kilometers away from Fengjie County. The diameter of the Tiankeng entrance is 626 meters, the diameter at the bottom is 522 meters, the vertical height is 666.2 meters, and the total volume is 119 million cubic meters. It is the deepest and largest karst funnel in the world and is known as the “very good pit at present”. The four sides of the Tiankeng entrance are sheer cliffs, as if cut by an axe and a knife, magnificent and spectacular. The rock patterns on the sheer cliffs have peculiar colors, with red, yellow, and black alternating, just like a series of traditional Chinese paintings painted by a master on the cliffs. There are countless deep and unfathomable caves and a surging underground river in the pit. From the pit entrance to the bottom of the pit, there is a winding staircase with a total length of 2.8 kilometers and more than 2,800 steps. Looking up from the bottom of the pit to the pit entrance is like “looking at the sky from a well”. In 1999, the Xiaozhai Tiankeng was included in the “preliminary list of world natural heritage” by the United Nations.
