Xuan Guang Temple, located approximately 2.5 kilometers away from Sun Moon Lake, was constructed in 1955 AD. Originally, it served as a temporary resting place for the relics of Master Xuanzang, which were retrieved from Japan. In 1965 AD, after the completion of Xuanzang Temple, the relics were permanently moved there. Situated at the land boundary between the Sun and Moon lakes, the temple features a Tang Dynasty-style architecture and enshrines a golden statue of Master Xuanzang, with a plaque inscribed with ‘National Family Teacher’ hanging above. It is positioned near the lake with its back to the mountains, just a dozen meters away from the water’s edge. A dock is located beneath the temple, allowing visitors to take a boat to the dock and then climb the stairs to visit. The temple is open all year round from 05:00 to 21:00, with specific business hours subject to the daily opening status.
