Yuan Heng Temple, situated at the foot of Shoushan Mountain, is a place of historical and spiritual significance. It was constructed in 1743, during the 8th year of Emperor Qianlong’s reign in the Qing Dynasty, as documented in the Annals of Kaohsiung City. The temple was founded by Master Jingyuan, who hailed from Zhangzhou in Fujian Province.
The temple’s primary deity is Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva. Within the main hall of the Great Buddha, a total of five Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, including Sakyamuni Buddha, are revered. In addition, there are three thousand Buddhas adorning the hall’s surroundings. The inner and outer walls of the temple feature intricate reliefs that narrate the life story of Sakyamuni Buddha.
The architectural styles of the temple are distinct, with the old temple exuding a sense of simplicity and unpretentiousness, while the new temple stands as a testament to grandeur, magnificence, and splendor.
Yuan Heng Temple is open to visitors all year round, with operating hours from 8:00 to 11:00 in the morning and from 14:00 to 17:00 in the afternoon.
