Yuanbei Islet is located in the eastern sea of the Penghu Islands. Although it was named for its birds, now there are no traces of bird flocks to be found. Hence, there is an old saying in Penghu: ‘Bird Islet has no birds, Cat Islet has no cats.’ The islet also boasts a highly developed columnar jointing of basalt, with rows of basalt columns standing tall, resembling towering cliffs.
