The former residence of Wellington Koo is located at No. 267 Hebei Road, Heping District, Tianjin. Constructed in 1921, Koo briefly lived here in 1924. The main building consists of three floors with a brick and wood structure. The ground floor features six rooms and two halls. Entering from the vestibule, one finds a grand hall with a large fireplace, fixed seating by the window, and adjacent rooms such as a study, dining room, and a flower hall, with a large platform outside the hall. The second and third floors are designated for bedrooms and bathrooms. The building’s façade is characterized by red brick walls, with windows and arches combined, and a pair of Baroque-style twisted columns at the entrance, exuding an air of dignity and elegance.

Wellington Koo, a native of Jiading, Shanghai, was a modern Chinese diplomat. He began his career in the Beijing government in 1912 and participated in the Paris Peace Conference as a member of the Chinese delegation in 1918. Koo resolutely took on the responsibility of peace talks and, after all arduous efforts failed, he resolutely refused to sign the unequal treaty, upholding the nation’s dignity.

Throughout his diplomatic career spanning over 50 years, he served as China’s envoy to the United States, the United Kingdom, and France, as well as a representative to the League of Nations and the United Nations. He also held positions such as the Foreign Minister of the Beijing government, Premier, and Foreign Minister of the Nanjing government. He attended the Paris Peace Conference and the San Francisco Conference, contributing to the founding of the League of Nations and the United Nations.

In 1967, Koo retired from his position as the Vice President of the International Court of Justice in The Hague. The opening hours and business status are subject to the daily operating conditions.
