Wu Sha was a pioneer settler who came to Taiwan during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. After arriving in Taiwan, he began开垦 in Renli Village, Gongliao Township. He led the settlers across Caoling to the Kavalan Plain and is honored as the ‘founder of Kavalan’. After Wu Sha passed away in 1798 (the third year of Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty), his descendants buried him by the Shiding Creek in Renli Village, Gongliao Township. At present, Wu Sha’s Tomb is rated as a third-class historic site. After renovation by the government, only the tombstone and the back soil are the original ones built in that year. The tombstone is engraved with the four characters ‘founder of Kavalan, Wu Sha’ to commemorate Wu Sha’s contribution to the pioneering and development of Yilan. Open all year round and all day.
