Spanning an area of 6,084 square meters with a construction area of 7,707 square meters, the museum features five exhibition halls and a total of 51 exhibits. These halls include the Preface Hall, Resources and Environment Hall, Research and Application Hall, Culture and History Hall, and a Temporary Exhibition Hall. In addition to these, the museum offers public spaces such as a 4D cinema, conference center, coffee bar, and souvenir shop.

The 4D dynamic cinema showcases films like ‘Wusong Clouds and Winds’, ‘Return to the Permian’, and ‘Ocean Spirits’. Since 2011, the museum has been organizing themed activities to enhance its educational offerings. These include events such as the 5th Shanghai Science and Technology Multimedia Works Competition Awards Ceremony, International Museum Day Joint Exhibition, Baoshan District Science Carnival, the 12th China Youth Robot Competition Shanghai Selection, City Science and Technology Little Reporters Visit to the Museum, 2012 Polar Exploration Exhibition, National Science Day and Car Model World, Anniversary Museum Celebration Forum, Shanghai Ocean Forum, World Water Day, and the Shanghai Public Security Hui Jing Tour, among others.
