ShanghART Gallery is honored to announce the opening of the exhibition ‘Advance and Growth’ at the West Bund Central Space on September 29, 2024.
The exhibition brings together works from 27 artists/group artists of ShanghART, presenting the creative will of life’s originary forces with an art full of ‘impetus’. It explores the life force within the artist’s spirit that continuously overcomes the downward materialistic tendencies and bursts upward. Bergson’s philosophy of life posits that life is a trend, propelled and developed by a primal vital impetus, through which humans have freed themselves from ‘ignorance’ and ‘instinct’, moving towards ‘intelligence’. Understanding creation from the perspective of life, the vital impetus and the creative will of artists share a mysterious connection – an inexplicable impulse that guides pure growth and creation. The works in the exhibition are undoubtedly the material traces left by the internal impulse’s advance into the external world. It is the existence of this impetus that allows art to transcend ignorance, instinct, and intelligence, giving rise to infinite possibilities.
